Natural Hickory Smoked Sea Salt Roasted Brussel Sprouts
If my mom would have made brussel sprouts like this when we were kids, I’d have asked for them every night. Our 3 year old loves them. Our dinner guests leave changed forever. I’m so glad we have a Sam’s membership so we can get the big bags.

Why this is SO good:
A bit crispy, a bit crunchy, roasted salty, not mushy, easy to make, and probably good for you…the smoky hickory salt is a brussel’s new BFF.
Ingredients:
1 lb fresh brussel sprouts, rinsed
Olive Oil
1 TBSP Natural Hickory Smoked Sea Salt (more or less to taste)
How to make it:
Rinse & Cut. Rinse the Brussels, then cut the stem end off. I slice in half from there, so you have 2 equally sized sides (not top and bottoms). If little leaves of the brussel sprout come off when I cut them, I tuck them under the brussel sprout on the pan because they crisp up and I think they’re delicious!
Oil & Season. Line up the sliced brussels, cut side up, on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper (or foil). Lightly drizzle olive oil on the brussels - too much oil = mush! Sprinkle Natural Hickory Smoked Sea Salt atop the brussels, to your taste.
Roast & Enjoy. Roast in an air fryer (like our Ninja Flip) or in the regular old oven at 425 for 20 minutes. Prepare to be amazed!
How to store it:
A nice airtight container in the fridge should do nicely - for up to 3 days!
So, what if:
The brussel sprouts came out mushy-mush. Maybe on the next go use a bit less oil. I couldn’t keep the oil from glooping out when pouring it from the jar, I had to get one of those fancy $5 pour spout ones…but it really made a difference!
My air fryer has 99 options, which one is right? Well, like people, these little things have unique characters. We usually go with the ‘roast’ setting, as ‘air fry’ left the outsides burnt and the insides uncooked.
I have bad brussel memories I just can’t shake. I’ve been there, just recently. Hello Fresh left me with no option but to try them again (since I’d forgotten to swap my veggie on the last order…) and honestly I expected to raise my fork and declare to my family ‘it’s just as I remember, therefore this veggie is optional for all!’ But, that didn’t happen. It’s a new year, time to try something new, or rather something old in a brand new Hickory Smoked kinda way.
