If you know you know…overnight oats are one of the BEST breakfasts around. There are a million recipes, but I hope this one is one of your favorites!
Time: 6 mins + an overnight
Yield: 2 x 8 oz mason jar
Author: Heather
Skill Level: Fairly easy
Why this is SO good:
Because you can really make it whatever kind of taste combo gets you going! Make your morning happy, filling, and delicious.
Ingredients:
1 cup Milk (you pick the variety!)
2 Tbsp Loose Leaf Black Tea
1 cup Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
1 Tbsp Espresso Love Sugar
1/4 cup Sliced Almonds
How to make it:
Heat the 1 cup milk to a very light simmer.
Turn off the heat and add the 2 Tbsp of loose leaf black tea, infuse (let sit) for 5 minutes.
Strain out the loose leaf tea with a sieve and divide the milk evenly into your 2 mason jars.
Divide the oats between the mason jars and mix it up. Divide the Espresso Love Sugar between the jars, and mix it up good!
Put lids on your jars and put them in the fridge overnight (or at least 5 hours).
Top with almonds (or other delicious things!) right before you enjoy.
How to store it:
In the fridge, but not more than a day or because it will start to get pretty mushy.
So, what if:
I don’t have ‘old oats,’ just the Quaker microwave packet stuff. Eh, 10/10 wouldn’t recommend. They’re meant to soak up liquid quickly, which means that overnight in the fridge will result in the mushiest of mushes for breakfast.
I need more protein in the AM. You ‘da boss! Here’s some options to add at the same time you add the oats: Chia seeds, 1 Tbsp; Flax seeds, 2 tsp; Peanut butter, 1 Tbsp; Almond butter, 1 Tbsp; Cashew butter, 1 Tbsp; your fave protein powder, 1 Tbsp.
I’m a bit crazy with toppings. It’s 2024, time for new things! Chop up that dragon fruit, sprinkle on those ruby cocoa chips, toast up some shredded coconut and top away! Just remember the espresso in that Espresso Love Sugar is already the big-flavor-in-the-jar, so whatever you add should play nice with that taste!
